Ingredients:
Pulled Pork:
3-4 pounds of pork shoulder
2 cups of water
1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar
Hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon of five spice powder
Pickle Vegetables
1 English cucumber - sliced thinly
2 carrots - matchsticks
1 jalapeno - sliced thinly
3 tablespoons lime juice
3 tablespoons of rice vinegar
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 cup of finely shredded cabbage
You'll also need:
Steamed buns - store bought
Cilantro
To make the pickled vegetables, mix all the dressing ingredients together and toss with the cucumber, jalapeno, carrots and 2 cups of finely shredded cabbage. Marinate for 2-4 hours, even overnight.
First real cooking step will be preparing the pork. place the pork shoulder into the slow cooker on high for 5-6 hours, until fork tender. Once cooked, please let the meat cool before handling as it will be super-hot!
Once the meat is cooled down, shred the meat with your hands or forks. Then move the shredded pork to a heated pan to crisp up the meat. You can skip this step and head straight into seasoning. Next, add in the hoisin and five spice powder. Salt and pepper to taste. I actually did not add any salt as the pork marinating in the slow cooker release its natural fats and flavor.
Steam the buns in a steamer for 5 minutes. They will be firm to the touch and cooked through. Repeat until they are all heated through.
To assemble the steam bun, fill the bun with the crisp pulled pork, and finish off with the dressed slaw and freshly chopped cilantro and a side of hot sauce.
Enjoy!

Not much ingredients and easy but time consuming recipe. But I am sure the result will worth the wait. Can we use beef instead of pork? Happy cooking.
